On the third day of the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, Slovakia received its first gold and second overall medal. Paracyclist Jozef Metelka confirmed the role of topfavorita in individual fighter races at 4000 m in the C4 category and masterfully defended gold from Rio de Janeiro 2016.

This means that Metelka is already a three-time Olympic winner and only one gold is missing to compensate for the most successful Slovak Paralympian from the summer version of the Ján Riapoš Games.

Confident and concentrated, Metelka already set a world record in qualifying with a performance of 4: 22.772 min and did not even need to reach the finish line in the final. He overtook his Romanian rival Carol-Eduard Novak by one lap after 2250 m, so the final was prematurely completed. The Colombian Diego Germán Dueňas won the bronze.

The long-term dominance of the 34-year-old Metelka in the 4 km fighter is also evidenced by the fact that he did not find a winner in this discipline seven times in a row at the World Championships and currently has two gold medals from the Paralympic Games.

The native of Piešťany, who has been preparing for a long time under the leadership of Welsh coach Kyleigh Manners, already has two precious metals in his account in Tokyo and a total of five (3–1–1). He expanded his medal collection from the Paralympics on Thursday at the velodrome in Izu in bronze in the discipline kilometer with a fixed start.

In Tokyo, Metelka has two more starts on the road ahead of her – she will present herself in time trials and mass start races.
