Juraj Tlapa, General Director of the National Motorway Company (NDS), is convinced that the D1 Lietavská Lúčka – Dubná Skala motorway section, including the Višňové tunnel, will be handed over to the public for use at the end of 2023.

“So far, this cursed building is going as expected. We identify and correct problems with the contractor on the fly. I dare say that so far we have not been surprised by anything that we could not solve. I firmly believe that this will continue in this way, “said Tlapa.

In April, NDS signed a contract with Skanska, which is the new contractor of the D1 Lietavská Lúčka – Dubná skala section of the motorway. The contract price for the completion of the 13.5-kilometer section D1, including the 7.5-kilometer-long Višňové tunnel, is 255 million euros.

Marek Holič, the NDS representative for the construction of the Višňová tunnel, explained that the first months after the signing of the contract were dedicated to the passport of failures. “It consisted of a visual inspection with a new contractor and specialists. We also proceeded to a comprehensive rescanning of both tunnel pipes. The good news is that we are accelerating on all external objects. The worse news is that we performed several measurements and scans on the tunnel blocks. And I can say with certainty that some blocks are in a worse condition than stated by the previous contractor, “added Holič.

The National Highway Company conducts international arbitration with the former contractor, the Salini-Rainbow Association. NDS wants to claim all the mistakes from the work, which it identifies during construction.
