Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3
The outer screen of the Galaxy Z Fold adopts a 6.2-inch Dynamic Amoled 2X panel, which displays 2268 x 832 px (389 dpi). It’s barely more than that of the Galaxy Z Fold 2 which displayed for its part 2260 x 816 px on the same diagonal of 6.2 inches (Super Amoled, 386 dpi). This screen’s ratio is 24.5: 9 this year compared to 25: 9 in 2020 – you really have to have an eye to tell the difference. On the other hand, we can only welcome the adoption of an adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz, which can of course be set at 60 Hz if it does not seem to meet your uses or if you want to extend the autonomy of the device.
Passed by our probes, this screen was very convincing. Its panel benefits from a lower delta E than that of the Z Fold 2, at 1.9 instead of 2.4 when Natural mode is activated, which translates to very low colorimetric drifts. Here too, it makes it possible to obtain a color temperature of 6685 K, very close to the video standard of 6500 K. With the Vivid mode proposed by default, the delta E goes to 3.7 and the temperature to 7060 K; very satisfactory results there too and slightly better than those of the cover display integrated into the Z Fold 2, which gained by adopting the Natural display mode.
Let us add to finish this technical overview that the exterior screen gains in maximum brightness. It is thus capable of displaying up to 493 cd / m², ie 32 cd / m² more than its predecessor, and in its image can go down to 1.9 cd / m². An appreciable score for who will use this screen in the dark. Its reflectance is only slightly higher (51.8%) than that of the Z Fold 2, which will not be a problem for use in direct sunlight. Its tactile delay also remains low, at 53 ms. A very good course, in short.
There remains the question of the use of this secondary screen which is not quite one, since it can be fully used when the device is folded up. It is also possible to continue your activities by switching from the interior screen to the cover display. However, this is an option since closing the Z Fold 3 is supposed to be a way of locking it: you have to go to the settings of the smartphone, then to Screen and choose one by one the apps that will continue. to be displayed once the terminal is closed in Switching between applications on the external screen. Depending on the applications used – Call of Duty Mobile occupies, for example, almost the entire screen – the display ratio of this external panel will be more or less comfortable.
