Peter Sagan announces his return: In Italy, he is fighting for the title of European Champion – Sports

BRATISLAVA – Slovak cyclist Peter Sagan plans to return to racing at the European Championships after a knee injury. The three-time world champion will present himself at the continental championship for the first time since 2018. Five years ago, he won the premiere year of professional road races at the European Championships.

Sagan did not race from the Tour de France, where he was injured in a fall in the 3rd stage. He withdrew from the competition after the 11th stage and underwent surgery after an infection in his knee wound caused inflammation of the gravity cam. He then lost his start at the Olympics.

“The treatment is on track. I’m training intensively to get in the best shape possible,” Sagan said in a press release from the organizers of the European Championship, which will take place on September 12 in Trento. The track profile should suit Sagan. “In a race like the European Championships, so many factors come into play that it is impossible to predict something in advance. I am only sure that I will do my best and try to get the best possible result,” he added.
