BRATISLAVA. The price of electricity will rise for households next year, according to estimates by the Minister of Economy Richard Sulík by 1.5 to 1.7 cents per kWh.
He stated this on Wednesday after the government meeting. Earlier, he met with the Prime Minister at a meeting on rising energy prices Eduard Heger and Andrej Juris, Head of the Office for the Regulation of Network Industries. Together, they sought solutions to prevent higher energy price increases.
According to Minister Sulík, energy prices consist of two components. According to him, one is the price for a commodity (power electricity), which is determined by the market. The second component is the distribution price determined by the state.
“But the first component is growing, the so-called force. We can’t blame it, it’s the market. At the meeting, we agreed that we will try to dampen the price increase as much as possible. For the time being, we are compensating for the impact of the power component by reducing distribution fees, but this is not possible. Unfortunately, to our bad luck, the price of electricity for households will be, according to my estimates, 1.7 cents per kWh. I hope that the prices of the power component will start to fall soon, “said Sulík.
According to the Minister of Economy, electricity prices also rose because the prices of emission permits rose. However, according to Sulík, this is the current EU policy.
