The first hockey league will have 12 participants: SZĽH granted a license for Slovan, Brezno and Žiar – Športky

BRATISLAVA – The Slovak Ice Hockey Association (SZĽH) decided on Wednesday to grant three licenses for the 1st Slovak Hockey League (SHL), which will therefore be played by 12 participants in the new season. HC Slovan Bratislava and the clubs HK MŠK Žiar n./Hronom and HK Brezno received a license for their reserve. The portal hockeyslovakia.sk informed about it.

Slovan will operate in the competition under the name Blue Wings of Slovan. As the “whites” informed on their Facebook, the team will be built almost exclusively on their own offspring and its primary goal will be to further develop young players, facilitate their transition from junior to senior hockey and move the best of them to the A-team. The team will be led by the coaching couple Rudolf Jendek – Richard Kapuš. The sports manager will be Miroslav Lažo. Žiar will again be the HKM Zvolen farm.

The key point in the meeting of the Executive Committee was the topic of direct progress or descent between SHL and extra league resp. possibility of barrage. “At the meeting, the Executive Committee of the SZĽH called for a meeting of representatives of the two competitions to find a common solution. In the coming days, therefore, they will meet at the level of league councils and I believe that they will agree.” said SZĽH president Miroslav Šatan.
