Coronavirus: WHO sees stabilization in the number of new cases of infection – Aktuality.sk

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of reported infections with new types of coronavirus worldwide is starting to stabilize.

Between 16 and 22 August, 4.5 million new cases were reported worldwide, slightly more than the previous week. However, the number of deaths over the same period remained roughly the same. Specifically, COVID-19 claimed around 68,000 victims globally.

In the European region, which includes up to 53 countries, the number of reported deaths has risen by 11 percent. On the American continent, they recorded an increase of ten percent. However, in other parts of the world, the number of deaths has fallen, according to the WHO.

According to the latest statistics from the World Health Organization, the world has overcome two waves of infections since the beginning of this year, with experts recording the first peak since mid-April and the second in mid-August.
