As a 23-year-old student, Heviga Malinová answers questions from journalists at a press conference on September 13, 2006 in Dunajská Streda.

President Zuzana Čaputová stated this in a statement, stating that the attack with a national dimension took place against the background of deteriorating Slovak-Hungarian relations, and instead of justice and its proper investigation, Malinová Žáková became the target of further intimidation at one time.

“The state apparatus opposed it – an ordinary citizen. The holders of state power distorted the law so that they wanted to bring it to court and not those who attacked it, “Čaputová emphasized. At the same time, she reminded that the perpetrators were never held “The excuse she later received is only part of the satisfaction behind the hardship she has had to face for many years,” the president said. She added that such injustice must not be forgotten.

The case of Hedviga Malinová Žáková began in the summer of 2006. According to her testimony, she was attacked on the way to school for an exam by two attackers and was written on a blouse by the Hungarians for the Danube. The police closed the case, saying that it did not happen as the victim described it. She complained to the European Court of Human Rights about the action of the Slovak state authorities. The case provoked a great response on the political scene. The former government of Iveta Radičová apologized to Hedviga Malinová Žáková and the complaint ended with a settlement agreement.
