Brest: death of a detainee at the remand center, his fellow inmate indicted for murder – franceinfo

A prisoner in Brest prison, in Finistère, was indicted for murder Tuesday evening after the death of his fellow inmate, who died in his cell on the night of Monday to Tuesday, reported Wednesday August 25 France Bleu Breizh Izel.

A second cellmate of the victim had also been taken into police custody, but the latter was lifted. He appears to be a witness rather than a suspect, said Brest prosecutor Camille Miansoni.

The body of the victim, a 34-year-old man, was discovered in his cell between 3.30am and 3.45am on the night of Monday to Tuesday by guards. As soon as they arrived, one of the inmates blamed himself for the homicide. He is a 25-year-old man, serving a 9-month prison sentence for contempt, death threats and violence against a person holding public authority.

According to the prison union UFAP-UNSa, he suffers from psychiatric disorders and had been taken care of by a doctor a few hours earlier. The main suspect has asserted his right to silence throughout his custody.

The autopsy carried out by the forensic doctor on the victim’s body revealed numerous traces of blows to the head, neck and the whole body. An investigation is underway.
