RINCON DE LA VICTORIA – Australian cyclist Michael Storer of the DSM team triumphed in Tuesday’s 10th stage of the Spanish Vuelta. After 189 kilometers from Roquetas de Mar, he reached the finish line in Rincon de la Victoria 22 seconds ahead of the second Belgian Mauri Vansevenant (Deceuninck-QuickStep) and the third Frenchman Clement Champoussin (AG2R Citroen). In the group of persecutors, the Danish Odd Christian Eiking (Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux) finished in fifth place, leading to the standings.

After a day off, the decision was made on the hill of Puerto de Almachar (10.6 km, 5.0%), at the top of the climb Storer gained a 35-second lead. The 24-year-old Australian achieved his second success at the event, rejoicing in the 7th stage. “It’s even more incredible than before. I felt good in the final climb, I knew what I had to do to win. I dreamed of winning this year’s Vuelta and I have two in my account after ten days,” Storer told the cyclingnews.com portal.

Eiking also fought in the escape and used it to win a red jersey. Its current bearer Primož Roglič from Slovenia (Jumbo-Visma) attacked from a peloton on a steep hill. He broke away from the biggest rivals in the overall classification and went to “full throttle” in the downhill, but it got his way and after a hard fall into the gravel he was overtaken by Enric Mas, Miguel Angel Lopez and Jack Haig. However, Egan Bernal and Adam Yates lost.

Eiking leads 58 seconds ahead of the French Guillaume Martin from Cofidis, Roglič is in third place with a gap of 2:17 min. “It would be better without a fall, but it’s still not bad. At least something happened, there is no reward without risk. The injuries aren’t too serious, I slipped on the ground, so I should be fine.” said the Slovenian in the first reaction.
