Google Maps warns better when it records your navigation data – Frandroid

Google Maps has updated to be more self-explanatory. The service will display a message to users to notify them of the recording of their personal data.

The management of personal data has become one of the great challenges of technology, and even the specialist in Google data aggregation must comply. The giant is pushing an update to the Google Maps application which features a new, very explicit information screen.

Now on Google Maps, to launch navigation mode, you must accept the warning message from Google. The latter presents how the data collected makes it possible to improve the navigation system of Google maps, in particular by calculating traffic information in real time. The company specifies that the data is not associated with the Google account or the device used.

If the user refuses to share their data, Google Maps will deny them access to real-time navigation mode. Instead, the list of stages to be carried out for the journey will be displayed in a static manner, without real-time guidance.

Here, Google is clearly laying down its own terms by offering the user a false choice. It seems to us that the firm could very well offer real-time navigation without taking traffic information into account, for users who refuse to share their data. However, Google Maps and its navigation service are free and that quality alternatives exist. It will therefore be necessary to accept the choice made by Google.
