The United States delivers to Mexico the former leader of the Tijuana cartel Eduardo Arellano Félix, “El Doctor”

(CNN Spanish) – On Monday, the United States authorities handed over to officials of the Ministry of Defense (Sedena) and the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic of Mexico the former leader of the Tijuana cartel Eduardo Arellano Félix, alias “El Doctor,” the FGR reported in a release.

The delivery took place under a security operation at the Matamoros international bridge, in the state of Tamaulipas, where the Mexican authorities proceeded to arrest him.

In Mexico, Arellano Félix faces accusations for his alleged responsibility in “crimes of organized crime, against health and criminal association,” said the Prosecutor’s Office.

CNN is trying to determine if Arellano Félix has legal representation to know how to declare himself before the accusations of the Mexican authorities.

Alias ​​”The Doctor” was released on August 18 after spending 13 years in a federal prison in Pennsylvania, as confirmed by the US Federal Bureau of Prisons. Arellano was serving a 15-year sentence for money laundering from drug trafficking.
According to his former attorney, Brian P. Funk, Arellano Félix was released early because he served 85% of the 15 years he was sentenced, in addition to the five years he was in prison while awaiting extradition.
