‘Inter Shibuya La Mafia’, Feid’s fourth album that led him to find his space in reggaeton

(CNN Spanish) – Feid presented last week “Inter Shibuya The Mafia“, his fourth record production, in which he was most vulnerable and in which he sought his space in reggaeton.

One day after its release, Feid made history in Spotify Colombia by positioning all the songs on his album within the first positions of the Top 200 of songs most played in that country on Saturday. Six of the songs were in the top 10 most played songs on the list.

In addition, it was the fifth album with the best debut globally on Spotify last weekend.

Feid and his place in reggaeton

If “Inter Shibuya La Mafia” could be defined in a feeling it would be nostalgia. His songs are reminiscent of reggaeton classics from the early 2000s. Did Feid seek to pay tribute to the beginnings of the genre?

“Beyond a tribute I wanted to find my space in reggaeton, give myself my place. I had always thought, how do I live like a classic? How do I live at that moment? Because what made me fall in love with the Reggaeton is not what it sounds like now, what (sounds) now is the music of my generation, which is super cool. On the album, Feid also experiments with a vocal range that his fans weren’t used to hearing: falsetto. He does it in the song # 9 of the production, “Ferxxo”, as the singer is also known.

“I had an illness several years ago, I got lumps in my throat, perhaps due to the misuse of my voice, or irresponsibility. I don’t know what happened, but the falsetto for many years. I come from singing in choirs, from having experience, from doing many voices in one song. When that happens to me falsettoI said like whatdamn Why does this happen to me? How did the pandemic force you to dive right into production?

Like many other artists, Feid had to manage during the quarantine to continue making music, without having access to a recording studio. Feid spent 2020 alone in Miami, something that led him to open up his most vulnerable side, not just musically speaking.

“I opened many parts that people do not know about me. I talked a lot about things that are happening to me at the moment. Not so much personal, but because I never talk about myself as an artist in my music. I played many themes that not only touch me me, but they touch the youth, who at the end of the day I have always tried to be the voice of the youth, “he said.

“Obviously I always bring a message to them of overcoming and of many things around, but I always want them to use my music so that they transmit a message in whatever way, make it easier for them to give the message they want to give to X or Y person, or his family, or his friend, or his brother, or his boyfriend or girlfriend, “he added.

And what is the hardest song for “Inter Shibuya La Mafia!”

“I believe that one called The Godfather, which is one of the last tracks. It is a reggaeton that reminds me a lot of Wisin y Yandel in their golden age. I did not know how to get on the track and that the verse to the previous songs would not sound. So I invested a lot of time doing the ‘chanteo’, I already had the intro and the chorus from before, but I left all the verses open. It was difficult to come up with something that convinced me after listening to the whole album, “said Feid.

Why didn’t Feid have any collaborations on this album?

Another aspect that draws the attention of “Inter Shibuya La Mafia” is that the album, which consists of 15 songs, does not have any collaboration. What led you to make this decision that could be atypical in the urban genre?

“Notice that for many years I had been presenting songs with someone consecutively. Ducati Bay, which was the EP that I released at the end of last year, I said well, I’m going to get a lot of collaborations, because from now on I want to start putting my songs in alone, without anyone “, Feid recalls.

“The first child we brought out was Chimbita and the people’s response was immediate. They got on with it, they really enjoyed it, they loved it. So I said well, if they grabbed one of me, let’s see if they’ll grab the other one, boom! The other, the other and at the end of the day I said well, how nice it is to know that it has a real audience base that is waiting and that is eager to hear my music, “said Feid.

“Sometimes, I don’t (want to) sound bad, but sometimes when I shared a song with an artist maybe it took away the original essence of the song. In the case, for example, of Fresh kerias, which I did with Maluma, the version that I had only sounded like very street, very dark, and when he gets on he obviously gives it a pop touch, like opening the range more, “said the singer.
