(CNN Spanish) – This weekend a trailer for “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, or some version of him, leaked on the internet, and millions of followers of the saga went to social networks to find some information about the new film. This Monday the official trailer appeared, a preview shared by the film’s networks, and solves many questions from viewers.
It is unclear if Sony, the film’s studio, released the trailer in response to the alleged leak, but anticipation for the production advance had only grown in recent days. Sony did not respond to CNN’s request for comment following the alleged leak (which was removed from the internet).
In the trailer for the third film in the current saga, the identity of Peter Parker (played by Tom Holland) is revealed to the whole world and his life falls apart.
Parker goes to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) so that through a spell that situation is reversed. Despite Wong’s warning not to do so, Strange helps Parker, but in the process the young superhero – anxious to lose the possibility of letting his loved ones know his secret – steps in and seemingly affects the spell.
The result: “We manipulate the stability of space-time,” says Strange. “The multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly very little.”
Thus, the world of the film is shown with physical impossibilities, more typical of the Doctor Strange story than what we are used to seeing in the Spider-Man movies.
And, as a hook to leave the audience intrigued, the trailer shows the appearance of Dr. Octopus, Otto Octavius, played by Alfred Molina, who was the actor who played the character in the original saga directed by Sam Raimi and starring Tobey Maguire. .
Many fan theories contemplated the appearance of villains from previous films and even previous Spider-Man, both Maguire and Andre Garfield, from the second series. Will they be in the new movie? It’s a mystery.
But the multiverse (and that Molina appears) opens that possibility, without a doubt. But on the film’s page on IMDb it is confirmed that there will be the characters from the previous trilogies: Max Dillon / Electro (Jamie Foxx) and J. Jonah Jameson (JK Simmons).
We will know the answer on December 17, the release date of the film.
The Spider-Man franchise, currently shared between Sony and Disney’s Marvel Studios, is one of the most popular brands in box office history, with more than $ 6.3 billion at the worldwide box office, according to Comscore. That includes the last two Sony / Disney movies, 2017’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and 2019’s “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” which have made $ 880 million and $ 1.1 billion worldwide. respectively.
Sony also had success with the 2018 animated film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” which grossed $ 375 million worldwide and won an Academy Award. And that animation actually showed a multiverse (with several Spider-Man) that could very well be something similar to what happens in this movie.
