MOSCOW. Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered the three shipyards to begin production of six military rules for the Russian navy. The TASS and AP agencies informed about it on Monday.

Through a videoconference, the head of the Kremlin issued orders for the construction of two nuclear submarines armed with intercontinental ballistic missiles, two diesel-powered submarines and two corvettes in shipyards in Severodvinsk, St. Petersburg and Komsomolsk on Amur.

“We will continue to strengthen the potential of the Russian navy, develop its bases and infrastructure, and equip it with state-of-the-art weapons,” Putin told the AP. “A strong and sovereign Russia needs a strong and balanced navy,” the Kremlin chief added.

According to the AP, the modernization of military equipment is a top priority for Moscow. According to the US news agency, Moscow is trying to restore a naval presence in those parts of the world where during Cold War dominated by the Soviet Union.
