The number of Russians who have arrived at the Costa Daurada in Tarragona in recent weeks has skyrocketed. Most are men between the ages of 20 and 40 who may be recruited into the army and who choose to flee their country. They come from large cities, such as Moscow or Saint Petersburg, because, as some of them have explained to NIUS, “in the smaller ones it costs more to leave.” Real estate agents in the area confirm this increase. “We have always had a trickle of clients from Russia, but this time this increase is due to the war, since there are many citizens who do not agree with Putin and decide to leave before they are recruited,” explains Alba Fuerte, manager of The Finques Teixidó.Fuerte real estate company explains that many of the people who arrive have good purchasing power, however, they have problems bringing money to Spain since “they only let them bring 100,000 euros”. “They usually come to buy real estate in a discreet way and they do it with a Russian intermediary who has settled in Spain for a long time. They come with the aim of staying for a good season, so instead of renting, many buy. They wait to see how the situation evolves in their country”, points out the real estate manager. I have my eldest son who is still in Russia, he wants to come to Spain but it is not easy Andrei is one of them. He settled with his family in Salou just a week ago. “I have already requested the documentation to be able to stay and live here. I have my eldest son who is still in Russia, he wants to come to Spain but it is not easy. You have to have money to be able to do everything legally,” he explains to NIUS. According to Andrei, many of the people who flee Russia go to countries like Turkey or Georgia. “I don’t know anyone who has volunteered to be conscripted into the Russian army. What the government did is send them against their will. If people called up to go to war refuse, they can face up to 15 years in jail.” , Add.
