The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has been made aware, through the Coordinated System for the Rapid Exchange of Information (SCIRI), of an alert notification sent by the health authorities of the autonomous community of the Basque Country regarding the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in cooked pork head meat from Spain. The batch affected by this bacterium is 2238402 of the FRIAL brand with an expiration date of December 14, 2022. According to AESAN, the initial distribution of the product has been in the Basque Country, ” although it is not ruled out that there will be distribution to other autonomous communities”, they warn. At the moment, it is ensured that “there is no record of any notified case associated with this food alert” but as a precautionary measure it is recommended that people have in their households the product indicated above, refrain from consuming it and return it to the points of sale. In the case of having done so and presenting some symptoms compatible with listeriosis (fever, headache, vomiting or diarrhea), it is recommended to go to a health center. Listeriosis in healthy people is usually asymptomatic or presents with mild symptoms. However, in immunosuppressed people, the elderly, children and pregnant women, they can present with severe conditions with a mortality rate of 30%.
