KDH asks the government to reconsider the measures related to the Pope’s visit – SME.sk

BRATISLAVA. The government should reconsider the measures related to Pope Francis’ visit in September. Christian Democratic movement (KDH) stated this in a press release sent by the movement’s spokeswoman Lenka Halamová.

According to KDH, the currently set conditions for the Holy Father’s visit to Slovakia are unfair to unvaccinated people and only deepen unnecessary tensions in society.

According to the movement, for example, it is unfair that 7,500 spectators can come to the Olympic hockey qualification inside the Ondrej Nepel Stadium, they do not have to be vaccinated and a negative PCR or LAMP test not older than 72 hours or a negative antigen test not older than 48 hours is enough. Only vaccinated people can come to the meeting with the Pope, which takes place outdoors.

“If there is a way to allow unvaccinated citizens to meet with the pope so that the safety of all participants is maintained, the government, in cooperation with experts, should try to find it once again,” said KDH chairman Milan Majerský.

According to him, the situation is not conducive to the fact that while strict measures apply in Slovakia for the meeting with the head of the Roman Catholic Church, in neighboring Hungary the government relaxed all measures.

Unvaccinated Slovaks cannot thus attend a meeting with the Pope at home, but they do in the neighboring country. According to KDH, the conditions for mass events are very inconsistent, unfairly different, and the government should work to unify them.
