The British Minister of Health during the pandemic, suspended for participating in a reality show

Former British Health Minister Matt Hancock, a key figure in the Boris Johnson government during the worst moments of the covid-19 pandemic, has been suspended as a Tory MP after his participation in the I’m A Celebrity program was confirmed. Get Me Out of Here! (I’m a celebrity, get me out of here), from the ITV network, a survival reality show in which the participants undergo extreme tests such as putting their heads in containers full of insects and eating all kinds of animals. The Conservative Party has considered that the situation is “serious enough” to proceed with this suspension, by virtue of which Hancock will no longer represent his constituency of Westminster and will have free rein to go to Australia to live an experience together with other public figures, such as singer Boy George. Hancock will keep his MP act and sit as an independent in the House of Commons. Sources close to the former minister have downplayed this turn in his career, alleging that Hancock “does not expect to enter the Government again.” In this sense, he hopes to use the time it lasts on reality and the wide visibility of the program, some twelve million viewers, to “promote his campaign on dyslexia,” according to the BBC. Hancock fell out of favor last year. In June 2021, he resigned as Minister of Health after it emerged that he had flouted restrictions during the pandemic to get together with another woman with whom he was allegedly having an extramarital affair.
