BRATISLAVA – End of holidays, end of summer. The heat, tropical days and nights in Slovakia have probably come to an end. A pleasant autumn begins, we can forget about temperatures above 30 ° C. On the contrary, according to the latest forecasts of the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute, we can expect significant cooling, torrential rains, floods and strong winds throughout Slovakia.

A significant rainfall field moved over our territory on Monday morning, which was related to the arrival of the cold front. The next night will be rainy and dry in our territory. In the morning, cold air begins to penetrate us. Gradually, rain is expected in several places in the western half of Slovakia, while precipitation will be most abundant in the northwest. The intensity of precipitation will gradually shift further over eastern Slovakia. Especially in some districts in the west and in the middle of Slovakia there is a risk of floods due to storms and heavy rains.

In this connection, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute issued a first-degree warning in the entire Prešov Region, in the districts of Banská Bystrica, Brezno, Detva, Lučenec, Poltár, Revúca, Rimavská Sobota, Veľký Krtíš, Zvolen, Gelnica, Košice surroundings, Košice city, Rožňava, Spišská Nová Ves, Dolný Kubín, Liptovský Mikuláš, Námestovo, Ružomberok and Tvrdošín. The warning is valid until 12:00 noon, resp. until 16.00 “Storms can be associated with downpours, which can cause up to 40 millimeters of rain to fall. Wind gusts can reach 65 to 85 kilometers per hour, ” informs the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute.

Meteorologists also issued a first-degree warning against flash floods and floods from permanent rains for the west and some districts of central Slovakia. “It rained the most and most rain fell in Záhorie, in Jablonice, where it was by 6.00 am. 59 mm of precipitation fell, while more than 44 mm fell in one hour! A significant total was recorded in Plavecký Petr, where it rained almost 52 mm of rain. Due to heavy rainfall, many river levels are rising, especially in Záhorie, Považie and around Turc. So far, no watercourse has reached the state of floods, but the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute has issued a 2nd degree warning against flash floods in the districts of western Slovakia, “ informs imeteo.sk.

Precipitation will also bring significant cooling to Slovakia and tropical 30-degree temperatures will no longer be in Slovakia in August. In the east of Slovakia, they can still attack this temperature on Monday, but otherwise the temperatures will climb to a maximum of +25 ° C. The several-week period of heat, wearing short sleeves and tropical summer days is over. Slovakia is facing a significant change in the nature of the weather, which will be affected in our territory by the cold front, which will flow to Slovakia until the beginning of September.

“Behind the cold front, the pressure level above the British Isles will begin to become more pronounced, the outcrop of which will gradually reach the point above Scandinavia. Right along its edge, cold, originally Arctic air flows into us from the northeast, which will flow into our area for several days. As a result, temperatures in our territory will fall and will only be below the limit of the long-term temperature normal. Maximum temperatures in the northern regions of Slovakia during the day will range only from +15 to +20 ° C. It will be a bit warmer in the southern areas, but up to a maximum of +25 ° C and the cold weather will be maintained for several days, ” informs imeteo.sk.
