Last Tuesday, the socialist group provoked the anger of its government partner, as well as the Ministry of Equality and the LGTBI collective, by supporting an extension of the term of amendments with the argument “of giving legal certainty to the law”, being convinced that it will be appealed by PP and Vox before the Constitutional Court. The bill for the real and effective equality of trans people and for the guarantee of the rights of e LGTBI people was approved on June 27 by the Council of Ministers and on October 6 it overcame the vetoes of PP and Vox in the plenary session of Congress. Since then the deadline to present amendments to the text has been extended every week, something that everything seems to indicate that it will not happen again, according to sources from the PSOE, who point out that the idea is not to ask for the extension on Tuesday so that the term ends on Wednesday so that the law can see the light as soon as possible; and they set, like the Ministry of Equality, the month of December to approve it definitively. Last Tuesday’s extension once again opened cracks in the PSOE and, in fact, the former socialist deputy of the Madrid Assembly and the first trans parliamentarian of Spain, Carla Antonelli, left the party in protest at the delay in processing the law. Last Thursday the PSOE made it clear that in the amendments it presents it will not touch on gender self-determination, but this formation does hesitate to equate gender violence with violence that is registered in the collective LGTBI. In its article 65, the bill contemplates, for example, that when there is a convict or a protection order for LGTBIphobic or intra-gender family violence -in LGTBI couples- the victims will have the same labor and Social Security rights as attributed to victims of gender violence. The sources consulted prefer not to advance the content of the amendments but they do insist that they will improve and shield the law against attacks “by land, sea and air” that they are sure the future will face norma.In the PSOE they are aware that once the term of amendments is over, the most complicated part remains, because they predict a difficult process, but they insist on the manifest will of the party to approve it as soon as possible. “We are going to be able to have the law in a very short time, the hard part remains and although we have already gone through a lot, the roadmap is still intact for its approval,” the sources insist.
