The epidemiological situation continues to increase slightly. Currently, there are about 70 confirmed cases per day, with children under 16 representing about 18 percent of them. In the last two weeks, 80 percent of cases were unvaccinated, or those not fully vaccinated.

The highest positivity was in the district of Banská Štiavnica
At the same time, the positivity of the tests is growing. For the first time since the second half of June 2021, the average 7-day positivity exceeded 1% (with an average of 6,000 tests per day). The highest positivity was in the districts of Banská Štiavnica (6.4%), Myjava (6.1%), Revúca (3.5%) and Stropkov (3.2%).
The delta variant dominates with virtually 100% in the sequenced samples at approximately 180 sequenced samples per week. Income, discharge and the number of patients in hospitals remain stable (since mid-July).
The number of vaccinated is rising only slightly
The number of non-vaccinated persons over the age of 50 decreased to approximately 806,000 persons with significant regional differences in the vaccination coverage of this risk group of the population. Vaccination in patients over 50 years of age with at least the first dose is 59.2%. The total vaccination rate with at least the first dose is 42.5%. Compared to the average in the European Union, it is 20% less (62% EU average, 60% Austria, 59% Hungary, 54% Czech Republic, 50% Poland, 11% Ukraine).
Within Europe, the most significant case growth is currently in countries such as Kosovo, Albania, Bulgaria, Switzerland and Serbia. Neighboring countries with Slovakia have a slight increase in cases – most notably in Austria (the 7-day incidence rose from 40 to more than 60 in a week).
Two districts are better off
Improvements occurred in only two districts. In the district of Košice – surroundings, due to the fact that the evaluation is done separately from the city of Košice. In the Stará Ľubovňas district, epidemiological concerns were not confirmed. “In two cases, there was a shift back to monitoring based on the arguments and judgment of the regional hygienist,” stated the Ministry of Health in the evaluation report, stating that the situation in the given districts was not retrospectively assessed as risky and therefore it is not necessary to wait for the confirmation of a positive trend.
“In the case of the district of Košice – surroundings, on the basis of the initiative of the RÚVZ, there was a separation from the city of Košice and thus also a separate evaluation,” the report says. “One PCR positive case for COVID-19 was confirmed in the Stará Ľubovňa district in the week under review, and this case was a young woman coming from Croatia who probably became infected by train back to Slovakia,” said experts from the relevant regional authority. The woman had no close contacts and adheres to the isolation.
On the contrary, the situation worsened in five districts
However, five districts have gone into the orange phase compared to last week. These are the districts of Banská Štiavnica, Kežmarok, Levoča, Stropkov and Vranov nad Topľou.
