Iran: free hugs and sweets in the streets to comfort “a sad nation”

Others distribute candies, or offer “checks” of the hand to whoever wants them: gestures which aim to instill energy and comfort in a youth particularly involved in the demonstrations against the regime since September 16. Protests have rocked Iran since the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini following her arrest by vice squad who blamed her for not covering her hair enough. Women and young people play a leading role in it. At least 215 demonstrators were killed according to the NGO Iran Human Rights (IHR), of which 27 were under 18.
