Deputies from the Committee of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic for culture and media condemned the statements of the general director of the SND, Matej Drlička, from the conference in Budapest. They called on the Minister of Culture Natália Milanová (OĽANO) to take responsibility. The head of the department was equally offended by Drličko’s statement. Milanová interrupted his work trip to meet him personally on Friday. “We consider his mocking statements to the address of ‘national artists’, who in the past worked or are currently working in the SND ensembles, that ‘they are, I guess, the most important persons in Slovakia’, particularly rude and undignified. His statements to the politicians who they are fulfilling their constitutional obligations about ‘unfortunately still breathing’, which is unacceptable and beyond any conceivable line,” the deputies said. The statement was signed by the chairman of the committee Kristián Čekovský (OĽANO), as well as Jana Žitňanská (unaffiliated), Dušan Jarjabek (Smer-SD), Ľubica Laššáková (unaffiliated), Michal Luciak (SaS), Monika Kozelová, Jarmila Vaňová, Milan Potocký and Robert Halák (all OĽANO). “The Minister of Culture was very offended by the aforementioned statement and is dealing with the situation intensively. She contacted Director Drlička and interrupted his work trip in order to meet him personally today (Friday, TASR note) and listen to his explanation,” the ministry responded to TASR.
