On the management of positive cases and contact cases, in elementary school, the protocol remains the same as last year: a case of Covid-19 leads to the closure of the class. But it has been adjusted for middle and high school students; in July, the minister surprised by announcing that unvaccinated children would be “kicked out” if a student tested positive in their class. But according to his statements to JDD and the protocol updates online on the national education site, only unvaccinated students and contact cases of the child tested positive will ultimately be isolated.

The sensitive issue of pupils’ vaccination status

But, unlike their comrades over 12 years old who are allowed to be vaccinated, they cannot use their vaccination certificate to return faster from the regulatory isolation of seven days.

On the sensitive issue of the vaccination status of students, Jean-Michel Blanquer gives the JDD A major clarification: children considered as contact cases will be able to return to class before the seven days on the basis of a certificate from the parents. These “Will be free to say whether their child is vaccinated or not, but this is the individual responsibility”, decides the minister. The health authorities will be able, if necessary, to verify that the families of the children in case of contact are telling the truth.
