SND leader Drlička has already met with the Minister of Culture: Will an inappropriate statement deprive him of his position? – New time

The general director of the Slovak National Theater (SND) Matej Drlička offered his resignation to the Minister of Culture Natália Milanová (OĽANO). He did so in connection with his statements at a panel discussion in Budapest. He admitted that he had used an inadequate choice of words. At the same time, he responded to the call of members of the parliamentary committee for culture and media. His statement was published by SND on the social network. The statements in question were made at the Thursday (October 20) discussion on the topic of the relationship between culture and politics in Budapest in English. “My current state of mind caused me to choose a politically incorrect vocabulary for some statements, more expressive than would be appropriate. (…) I regret these statements because they did not correspond at all to how I would normally express myself in Slovak, ” said Drlička. He apologized if anyone was offended by his way of communication. He added that he accepts full responsibility for his words. Deputies from the Committee of the Slovak National Council for Culture and Media condemned Drlička’s statements in Budapest on Friday and called on the Minister of Culture to be held accountable. The head of the department was equally offended by Drlička’s statement. For example, Drlička’s derisive statements addressed to “national artists” who worked in the past or are currently working in the ensembles of the Slovak Republic, about the fact that “I guess they are the most important people in Slovakia”, were considered indecent and undignified by the deputies. Statements addressed to politicians who are fulfilling their constitutional duties that “unfortunately, they are still breathing”, they consider inadmissible and beyond any conceivable line.
