When are you coming?” a question that caught Davis off guard and he began to suspect his intentions. “I thought, ‘Oh no, why didn’t I realize this was going to be about? he told the New Yorker. “But Dustin Hoffman’s advice immediately popped into my head and I said, ‘Wow, Jack, I’d love to. You are very attractive. But I have a feeling we’re going to be working together at some point in the future, and I’d hate to have ruined the sexual tension between us.” The actress’s exit left Nicholson totally out of it. “He was like, ‘Oh man, where did you get that?’ So it worked,” recalls the actress, who already spoke of this anecdote in 2014 and includes it in her recently published memoir, Dying of Politeness: A Memoir.
