Nine cows die in Rois after ingesting the burundanga plant

The animals died suddenly after feeding on the grass that the rancher himself had cut from a farm. While waiting for the assessment of the veterinarian who examined the cows to be confirmed, everything seems to indicate that they died as a result of poisoning by jimsonweed, the plant from which scopolamine or burundanga is extracted (the drug that sexual aggressors use to annul the will of their victims). This plant, native to America and introduced to Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries, can be found in sparsely cultivated areas, on roadsides or contaminating some crops such as corn. It is also known as stink grass (because of its unpleasant smell and taste). It is believed that remains of this plant were among the grass that the animals ate. For the loss of the animals and, also, for the economic consequences that it entails (which can be around 10,000 euros). The Council of Rois has set up a solidarity bank account (Abanca ES49 2080 0328 9031 1000 0042) so that those who want to help can deposit their donations. With the money collected, the rancher will replace the cattle he has lost. The mayor of this municipality, Ramón Tojo, is in contact with the technicians of the Ministry of Rural Environment to find out the origin of the poisoning and find ways to help this neighbor. The alderman has advanced that he is going to propose to the councilors of Rois to donate the diets of the next plenary session to collaborate with Manuel Rodríguez.
