Minister of Justice Viliam Karas demands that the death of the accused in the prison in Leopoldov be investigated with the greatest possible care. As reported by the Ministry of Justice, the accused took his own life after being detained in the case of large-scale drug smuggling into prison premises. The Minister will demand a thorough investigation of all the circumstances of this death. “As part of my competences, I will talk about this topic in detail with the leadership of the choir and ask about the setting of internal rules that should prevent such tragedies,” informed Karas. He stated that State Secretary Peter Sepeši would particularly supervise the rigorous review of procedures. “The life of every person, even accused or convicted, has a value that must be protected under all circumstances,” said the head of the Department of Justice. He added that he fully trusts the law enforcement authorities and their independent investigation. Karas will place special emphasis on measures against the smuggling of drugs and other objects and things into prison premises. At the same time, he appreciates the performance of the police and the corps in detecting specific criminal activity in Leopoldov, and expects that preventive measures will be taken in all institutions to identify and eliminate similar security risks.
