Princess Marie of Liechtenstein dies at 81 the wife of the reigning prince – archyworldys

Princess Marie, wife of the reigning Prince of Liechtenstein Hans-Adam II, died on Saturday, August 21, at the age of 81.

Her family had gathered around her, and after receiving the last rites, she “Passed away peacefully and with great trust in God”, said the princely house in a press release.

Princess Marie had suffered a stroke on Wednesday. She passed away on Saturday afternoon in the hospital.

The princess consort, like her husband, had largely withdrawn from public life in Liechtenstein, a small principality located between Austria and Switzerland with nearly 40,000 inhabitants. Prince Hans-Adam II, who succeeded his father Franz-Joseph II as regent of Liechtenstein after the latter’s death in 1989, entrusted the management of the principality’s affairs to his eldest son, Prince Alois, in 2004.
