Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the Turkish head of state Recep Tayyip Erdoganan on Thursday. The meeting is taking place on the sidelines of the regional summit in Kazakhstan’s Astana. According to AFP, Putin told Erdogan that Moscow will consider building a gas pipeline hub in Turkey, TASR reports. “Turkey is currently proving to be the most reliable route for supplies (of gas), including to Europe,” Putin explained. Erdogan defended Turkey’s developing trade ties with Russia as Western nations imposed a series of sanctions against Moscow over its military aggression against Ukraine. “The actions of Turkey and Russia may upset some circles, but the less developed countries will be pleased,” said Erdogan, who a few months ago together with the UN brokered an agreement to allow the sea export of grain from Ukraine.
