This morning there was a massive explosion on the Kerch Bridge, which connects the Russian mainland with the occupied Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. It happened on the railway part of the bridge. Footage published by the Kyiv Post portal shows a large explosion and subsequent fire on the bridge, which was left badly damaged. Traffic on an important transport link was stopped. The Russian-language BBC portal reported that part of the road had collapsed on the bridge. This is also confirmed by images circulating on social networks, which show how part of the road has completely fallen into the sea. Volodymyr Zelensky’s advisor, Mychajlo Podolak, also commented on this photo on Twitter. He has not yet distanced himself from the attack on the bridge of Ukraine. Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee, quoted by the Russian-language BBC, said that a truck bomb had exploded on the bridge and that both lanes had partially collapsed. Up to seven tank cars were supposed to catch fire on the spot. According to the Ukrainian media, an explosion occurred on the bridge around six in the morning (5:00 a.m. CEST), which, according to witnesses, could be heard several kilometers away. Reuters pointed out that these reports could not be independently verified. Russia annexed Crimea to its territory in 2014. Ukraine and most countries of the world do not recognize this annexation.
