The accused Dušan Dědeček, who caused a tragic weekend accident in the center of Bratislava in a drunken car with five victims, was escorted to the preliminary proceedings at the Bratislava I District Court on Thursday at 4 pm. In the center of Bratislava, the police had to take special measures, due to Dědeček’s arrival at the court they even closed tapes of the street. Grandpa was given a bulletproof vest and handcuffs. The pre-trial judge will decide on the motion for custodial prosecution of the accused. Legal representative Jiří Kučera repeated in front of the court building that he regrets the accused act and wants to apologize to the families of the victims. In the indictment, he did not read that his client should have been aggressive after the arrest. “A member of the Fire and Rescue Service says the opposite, that he was polite. Only that he told the police officer that he was sick. He has several diagnoses,” Kučera pointed out. On Tuesday (October 4), the prosecutor of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Bratislava filed a motion for detention on the grounds of escape and prevention. He thus identified himself with the initiative of the police investigator. The court must decide on custody within 72 hours of the submission of the petition. “I described the individual circumstances and arguments why I looked into the reasons for detention in the written motion for detention,” the prosecutor said, adding that he would not comment further on these reasons at the current stage of the criminal proceedings. If found guilty, Dědeček faces a prison sentence of 20 to 25 years or life imprisonment.
