Fire in the Var: Brigitte Bardot demands from the prefect a “white year” for hunting – franceinfo

She wants to avoid “another disaster”. A fire destroyed more than 7,000 hectares of forest, vineyards and scrubland, in the Var since Monday August 16, devastating in particular nearly half of the National Nature Reserve of the Plaine des Maures, a haven of biodiversity. Brigitte Bardot, president of the foundation of the same name dedicated to animal protection, demanded on Friday from the prefect of the department, to “postpone the opening of the hunt” through the establishment of a “White year”.

“Faced with this ecological disaster, we must not add another disaster which is announced with the imminent opening of the hunt”, she wrote in a letter posted on Twitter.

“The natural habitat of the animals is destroyed, many who have not been trapped in the flames will perish for lack of food. It would be criminal (…) to allow wheatear hunters and kill the survivors of this drama. (…) Nature needs to breathe and animals need a truce “, justifies the former actress in the mail.
