The Russian patrol forcefully detained the general director of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant Ihor Murasov on the way from the occupied power plant and took him blindfolded to an unknown place, the newspaper Ukrainska Pravda reported today on its website. He refers to the head of the Ukrainian company Enerhoatom Petar Kotin. According to Kotin, the incident took place on Friday. Until now, it is not known where Murašov is and what his fate is. The detention of the director who bears the main responsibility for the plant’s nuclear and radiation safety creates danger in the operation of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, Kotin warned. At the same time, he called on the Russians to immediately release the director and to stop “nuclear terrorism against the management and employees” of the power plant. Kotin also appealed to the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, to advocate for the release of Murasov. The Russians took possession of the Zaporozhye power plant at the beginning of March, shortly after their military invasion of Ukraine.
