Morgan Keane killed by a hunter in the Lot: the shooter and the director of the hunt will be tried in November

Almost two years after the hunting accident which cost the life of a resident of Calvignac, Justice has just recorded the dismissal before the correctional court of Cahors of the hunter who carried out the fatal shot and of the director of the hunt. Alexandre Rossi, the Public Prosecutor, indicated this morning: “In the context of the fatal hunting accident during a wild boar beat in Calvignac, on December 2, 2020, which cost the life of Mr. Morgan Keane, a trial will take place on November 17, 2022 at 8:30 a.m. “. He also recalls the procedure which followed this terrible tragedy. “At the end of a judicial investigation, which allowed the realization of a reconstruction, numerous testimonies and the study of the departmental scheme of hunting management, two people were indicted. The hunter who carried out the fatal shot and the director of beating”. Both will therefore be sent back to the Cahors Criminal Court for manslaughter during a hunting action. The prosecution recalls: “This offense is punishable by three years’ imprisonment, a fine of 75,000 euros, the prohibition to hold a weapon for 5 years or the withdrawal of a hunting license indefinitely”. In this case, the victim’s brother and the departmental federation of Lot hunters have joined as civil parties. In our columns, Me Benoît Coussy, Rowan Keane’s lawyer, indicated that “the thesis of the accident does not really stand up”, refusing this idea of ​​an “event occurring unexpectedly” but speaking of “an strong choice that is made in a way
framed”. Because he continues “a certain number of factual elements attest that the hunter who fired could have been perfectly informed by his colleagues of the presence of the two boys, during the two hours preceding the tragedy”.
