Covid-19 in New Aquitaine: 110 patients in critical care in hospitals, a figure on the rise – South West

The virus is still circulating very actively in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. This is the main finding that the ARS draws on the study of data for the week of August 9 to 15.

An active circulation which is accompanied all the same by a slight improvement, because the agency observes a drop in the incidence rate (190.1 / 100,000 inhabitants against 199 / 100,000 inhabitants week 31) and in the positivity rate at 3.2% (4.3%).

The incidence rate remains relatively stable in all age groups except for 15-44 year olds who still have the highest rate (334.1 / 100,000 inhabitants). We observe that it is on the rise in five departments: Charente, Corrèze, Creuse, Deux-Sèvres and Haute-Vienne and that it continues to decrease in two coastal departments: Charente-Maritime and Gironde .

More rise in positivity rate

In all the departments, the positivity rate decreases or remains stable overall. It is everywhere below the attention threshold of 5% for the third week in a row. As everywhere in France with the obligation of the health pass, the screening rate increases sharply (5,854/100 inhabitants), especially among 15-74 year olds.

But, logically, the resurgence of the virus with the Delta variant in previous weeks now leads, with a delay, to an increase in the hospital. Indeed, the ARS indicates that the number of new hospitalizations and admissions in critical care services continues to increase in the departments of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and in particular in Gironde.

In this department, the number of patients admitted to critical care was 36 on August 15, 110 patients occupying the beds of these services in hospitals in the region.

On the national vaccination podium

The ARS of Nouvelle-Aquitaine insists on maintaining barrier gestures, perhaps a little forgotten with the summer, yet guaranteeing less contamination.

The rhythm of vaccinations continued with efficiency in the region, indicates the ARS, which is pleased to be the 3rd metropolitan region, after Normandy (65.25%) and Brittany (64.9%), in terms of vaccination coverage of its population (complete diagram).

As of August 18, 4,524,259 Neo-Aquitaine had received at least one dose of vaccine (75.4%) and 3,869,593 had their complete vaccination schedule (64.5%), with the prize going to the Landes and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques (more than 70% of fully vaccinated), departments very affected by the summer wave.

Regarding young people, it should be noted that in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, 1/3 of 12-17 year olds have complete vaccination coverage, 34.4% of this age group have received two doses of vaccines.
