The Russian Orthodox Church promises soldiers forgiveness of all sins if they sacrifice their lives in war. Referring to the Sunday report of the Kathpress agency, the APA agency reported on this on Monday. According to this source, during the Sunday service, Patriarch Kirill compared death “while fulfilling military duties” to how God sacrificed his only son, Jesus. 75-year-old Kirill described the willingness to sacrifice as a significant manifestation of “the best human qualities”. In connection with Ukraine, the Russian patriarch spoke of a “fratricidal war” without naming the country. The Church prays for “this fight to end as soon as possible, so that as few brothers as possible kill each other in this fratricidal war”, he declared. At the same time, Kirill emphasized that the church knows about the self-sacrifice of those who died while performing their military duties. “And that is why we believe that this sacrifice will wash away all the sins that man has committed,” he declared. According to official data published by Moscow on Thursday, 5,937 Russian soldiers have died during the “special military operation” in Ukraine since February of this year. However, both Kiev and Western experts assume much higher Russian losses.
