Almost 97 percent of those hospitalized with covid were not vaccinated – SME.sk

BRATISLAVA. Almost 97 percent of hospitalized patients with the disease COVID-19 were unvaccinated. The statistics cover the period from 1 January to 31 July 2021. This follows from information published by the Public Health Office (ÚVZ) of the Slovak Republic on the social network.

In the monitored period, the Epidemiological Information System registered 16,117 hospitalized in infectious wards or in reprofiled wards.

“508 hospitalized, ie 3.1 percent, had a positive vaccination history. 15,609 hospitalized patients were unvaccinated,” the hygienists said.

They emphasized that research as well as national statistics confirm that vaccination significantly reduces the likelihood of infection with COVID-19.

“In rare cases, although vaccination may occur in vaccinated people, the data show that they have a milder course of the disease and there is little chance that fully vaccinated people will be hospitalized,” they added.

Hygienists have noted that vaccination also helps other patients with other serious diseases.

“If we avoid overloading the health system, patients will have access to their examination, examination and necessary treatment,” they added, adding that clinical trials have shown high vaccine efficacy even in people who are objectively at risk of severe COVID-19.

Asthmatics, people with chronic lung disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, liver disease or obesity.
