Just 12 years old, and already vaccinated against Covid-19: after blowing out his candles, a young teenager wanted to take his first dose as quickly as possible. “To avoid that there are several variants that develop, that there are more people who are infected”, he justifies. Same scene in a vaccination center in Montreuil, in Seine-Saint-Denis. The end of the holidays made another young person take the plunge. He wished “resume sports activities” and “go to school without problem”.

12-17 year olds are catching up as the start of the school year approaches. On Thursday August 19, 53.8% of them received at least one dose of the vaccine, against only 24.6% on July 16. “Now we do not ask ourselves whether I am for or against vaccination, it is whether I want to do without a health pass or not”, estimates Florence Vilaggi, coordinator of a vaccination center in Montreuil. Children 12-17 can be vaccinated since June 15. The Minister of Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, confirmed on the morning of Thursday 19 that young people would not need a health pass to go to school.
