The construction of the factory in St. Petersburg, Russia started in 2005, while it opened its doors two years later. The first vehicle produced was the Toyota Camry, which was supplemented by the RAV4 model in 2016. After the full start of production, the capacity increased to 100 thousand cars per year, which were sold primarily on the Russian market, but the company also exported some to neighboring countries. What will happen to the relatively new factory is not clear at the moment, but several media are speculating about a possible sale. A Toyota spokesperson made it clear that even if this step were to happen, the factory would not produce even rebranded models under any circumstances.
