The Ukrainian army announced on Friday that it had recaptured the village of Jackivka and several positions of Russian forces south of the city of Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region, for which they had been fighting for weeks. It was reported by the AFP agency. It happened on the day when the so-called referenda on their accession to Russia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced on Friday that Russia wants to annex the four regions of Ukraine as soon as possible after the ongoing “referendums” are over, which will last until Tuesday. At the same time, he emphasized that attempts by Ukraine to regain control of these areas will be considered an attack on the Russian Federation. Neither the West nor the so-called Ukraine plebiscites on accession to Russia are not recognized and are called pseudo-referendums. The voting is taking place without Ukraine’s consent, during martial law and does not meet democratic standards, the DPA agency reminds. Moreover, it cannot be properly monitored even by independent observers.
