WOLLONGONG. He narrowly missed out on a medal at the championship in Belgium last year. He was the second fastest in the group sprint, but ended up in fourth place. It was still in the junior category, where he also achieved several other excellent results. After all, that’s why they noticed him in the best team in the world. Slovakian Martin Svrček has already presented himself in the under-23 category at the World Cycling Championships in Wollongong, Australia. He was one of the youngest competitors on the starting list, as he only celebrated his 19th birthday in February. Nevertheless, he did not disappoint and kept Slovak cycling fans in suspense until the last moments. He finished in the main group alongside the favorites. And although the sprint for third place did not work out for him, the final 16th position is a great promise for the further career of the native of Nesluša. in the colors of Quick-Step and immediately won the jersey for the best domestic competitor. The prologue was excellent for him, during the whole race he was intensively involved in setting the pace of the peloton and in the stage that ended in Spišská Nová Ves, he captured the opponents’ starts in a great way. At the championship in Australia he rode like a seasoned competitor. For most of the time he was the only Slovak in the peloton, so he hid as much as possible and saved his strength. Similar to how Peter Sagan did with his three world titles.
