Facebook launches Workrooms, a virtual reality workspace – BFMTV

Having a virtual reality headset will not be essential to take advantage of the latest news from the social network, launched on August 19.

“Our way of working is changing”. After long months of confinement and the generalization of teleworking, Facebook is looking for new solutions to “work if we can not be physically reunited”, explains the social network in a blog post this August 19.

To do this, Oculus, the group dedicated to virtual reality bought by Facebook, is launching “Workrooms”. These are virtual rooms, dedicated to teleworking and operating thanks to virtual reality.

This novelty works on the Oculus Quest 2, the virtual reality headset marketed by Facebook.

“Mixed Reality Desktop, Keyboard Tracking, Hand Tracking, Remote Desktop Streaming, Video Conferencing Integration, Spatial Audio and the New Oculus Avatar” are the features built into Workrooms .

VR is optional

For the (many) people who would not be equipped with a virtual reality headset, Facebook specifies that Workrooms can also be reached by a simple video call. The room can accommodate up to 16 participants in virtual reality, and 50 in normal call.

Finally, Facebook is showing off with the data of its users. The social network specifies that work conversations on Workrooms, but also files, will not be listened to or stored in the company’s servers, or used to offer targeted advertising.

Workrooms is downloadable in its beta version. It is available in a list of countries, including France, where are marketed the Oculus Quest 2.
