The artist is now releasing a golden version of his latest album, “Bestia Sagrada” He will soon travel to Portugal, where he will participate in the MIL Lisboa international festival turning 40, but for the last three years she has become Isabel Do Diego, a fictitious character with a golden face who fuses everything she touches, from techno to flamenco. She now releases her new album, “Bestia Sagrada, golden version”. We started talking with Juan Diego. Born in Villa del Río, in Córdoba, since 2007 he directs the Vértebro theater company. There are the roots of it. “I play all the palos: direction, music…”, he tells NIUS. Without neglecting the theater, music gradually opened another path and so in 2020 his first work came out, “DePueblo”. His way of working with music is very theatrical. “I work from the dramaturgy” Juan Diego tells us that he approaches each album as if it were a theater script where he draws a sound map. “A journey in which there is a beginning and an end,” says the artist. And that old woman was the end of Juan Diego… and the beginning of Isabel Do Diego. They are the names of his maternal grandparents. “When they died I understood that I had to occupy that identity.” Both were dedicated to the field and from them he received the most folkloric part of his roots, “but I am also a person of the 21st century and I am interested in electronic music, not as a concept of dancing, but as a way of bringing art to others. imaginary places”. A dual artist Isabel Do Diego lives searching for the balance between flamenco and electronics, between tradition and technology. Among his songs there is more experimental music but also a closer and more friendly pop sound, even with a chorus. But when the viewer trusts, the break comes that changes everything. “For me the important thing is not to like… in fact I never liked the verb to like”, explains Isabel Do Diego, “my work does not respond to the parameters of logic, I want to go through people, give them a starting point and that they complete the work with their own experiences”. For this new journey he has created three sound trompe l’oeil, three instruments created by the artist that do not sound as they seem to sound when you see them. With them he will now travel to Portugal where he is going to participate in MIL Lisboa, an international music festival that acts as a showcase for artists. In addition, he has dressed his face in gold, which does not reveal his face in this new stage. “The image for me is very important because it’s not me, it’s not Juan Diego on this album.” Her new starting point is “Holy Beast”, again a duality in her path. “Beasts are not usually sacred, nor is the sacred associated with beasts,” he tells us. This is Isabel Do Diego… Not Isabel, not Diego, not Juan, but all of them at the same time.
