The former Attorney General of the State and former Minister of Justice, Dolores Delgado, has been promoted to the highest category of the Public Ministry by obtaining the position of Chief Prosecutor of the Chamber of the Robed Prosecutor’s Office of the Supreme Court, although without the support of the majority of the Council Prosecutor. The State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, has agreed to grant the position to Delgado despite the fact that the Fiscal Council, an advisory body that, in a meeting held this Thursday, has decided not to support the candidacy of the former PSOE deputy by six votes against five and one abstention. It should be remembered that the task of the Fiscal Council is to inform the appointment proposals, so that the final decision is in the hands of García Ortiz, who will be the one who sends the Government the list of candidates chosen so that the Council of Ministers proceed to the appointment.Rise to the top of the judicial ladderDelgado resigned on July 20 from his position as attorney general, alleging health reasons after an ope spine ration. The former Minister of Justice had a place in the Prosecutor’s Office of the National Court (AN), but with the change to the Military Chamber of the Supreme Court, she has managed to climb the ranks of the Public Ministry. Delgado’s rise in the ranks was the first challenge of the new attorney general, Álvaro García Ortiz, and comes after the PSOE tried to guarantee this promotion through an amendment included in the Bankruptcy Law that would have meant that Delgado and his successors at the head of the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) were promoted to prosecutor of the Supreme Chamber upon leaving office, but the party ended up withdrawing her due to the controversy generated. Delgado has competed with 19 other candidates who held the position in the Military Chamber, some with greater seniority and others with better resumes for the position, according to the sources consulted.
