Taliban in Afghanistan: A young footballer died in a plane crash – SME.sk

CABLE. Since the Taliban seized the Afghan capital, crowds have gathered at the airport in hopes of escaping from a country taken over by this radical Islamist movement.

Among them was a player of the Afghan national youth football team. His name was Zaki Anwari and he was 19 years old. He died in a crash from a C-17, the country’s official sports federation said.

“Anwari was one of hundreds of young people who wanted to leave the country and in the incident he fell from a US military plane and died,” she said in an official statement on Facebook.

In a social network post, the Federation wished Anwari a place in heaven and prayed that God would give his family, friends, and teammates peace of mind.

“He was an amazing young player, a very good man,” said his coach Mobin Muhammad for The Daily Beast.

Anwari was not the only one who lost his life in the incident, he reports Guardian. “In addition to online videos and reports of two people falling off the plane during departure, human remains were discovered in a C-17 wheel after landing at al-Udeid air base in Qatar,” said the US Air Force’s Special Investigation Bureau, which is now investigating the incident.

Since the Taliban took control of Kabul on Sunday, 12 people have died at and around the international airport.
