Pas-de-Calais: Two detainees die in one night in the same prison – 20 Minutes

Two detainees died on the night of Friday to Saturday at the Longuenesse penitentiary center in Pas-de-Calais, with no link between the two deaths, giving rise to the opening of two investigations to determine the causes of their death, indicated the floor this Saturday. These two men, born in 1979 and 1982, died “a priori of natural death” and did not commit suicide, specifies the parquet floor of Saint-Omer. The two detainees had “nothing to do” one with the other and did not rub shoulders, one of the two being in the building of the “accompanying structure towards the exit”, added the same source, underlining the “quite exceptional” character of these two almost simultaneous deaths. Two investigations were opened to determine their causes. Autopsies are due to take place next week. “Uncomfortable in the night” “We are awaiting the results of the toxicological analyses. They are young people, who had no particular illnesses, ”said the prosecution. According to UFAP-UNSA union representative Yannick Lefebvre, the first detainee arrived at the penitentiary center around 5 p.m. Friday and was then seen by a doctor. He then “felt unwell in the night” and his fellow prisoner alerted the guards, who performed first aid without succeeding in saving him. The second prisoner was discovered dead in his bed in the support structure towards the exit “this morning at the start of service”, according to Yannick Lefebvre. “It’s difficult for colleagues, it’s rare to have two deaths in one night,” he said.
