However, the cooling brought another extreme.

The SHMÚ informed on the social network that on Thursday morning the meteorological stations measured up to two degrees Celsius in the mountain valleys. This is due to the colder air mass, which is located above our territory. “The air temperature at the level of 850 hPa, ie approximately 1500 m above sea level, was at the level of approx. 8 ° C at night above Poprad. Especially in central and eastern Slovakia, the clouds were reduced during the night and there was a light wind or no wind, “ explained by meteorologists, adding that this created suitable conditions for a more significant drop in temperature.

Where was the coldest?

They pointed out that the end of August was approaching and that the nights were longer than it was during the summer solstice. According to SHMÚ, it is therefore not surprising that in mountain valleys the night temperature can approach freezing these days. And that’s what happened. “Of the lower positions, it was coldest at the station near Dobšinská Ice Cave, where the temperature dropped to 2.1 ° C. Vernár followed, where the minimum was at 2.6 ° C. The minimum was lower than 6 ° C at several stations, especially in the mountainous areas of central Slovakia, in Spiš, but also in the extreme east of the territory., “ meteorologists pointed out.

Those who are going to the Tatras and the surrounding area should thus prepare for very cold evenings.
