The Slovakian defender played the entire match in the visitors’ jersey, winger Erik Jirka started for the home team in the 71st minute, and goalkeeper Marián Tvrdoň sat out the duel on the substitutes’ bench. Edin Džeko and Denzel Dumfries were successful in shooting. Džeko opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a cross shot to the right post after a pass from Joaquin Correa. The same player could have added a second goal shortly before the halftime break, but after a quick counterattack, this time goalkeeper Jindřich Staněk caught him. Bucha saw red Inter had a great chance even just after the change of sides, Alessandro Bastoni crossed from a direct kick into the box, where Robin Gosens headed, Staněk kicked the ball and Škriniar’s shot was blocked by Václav Jemelka for a corner. Pilsen’s hopes for a better result were undermined by Pavel Bucha, who saw a red card in the 60th minute for a foul on Nicol Barella. The penalty came eleven minutes later when Džeko pulled off another quick counter from midfield, waited for his teammates and passed to the onrushing Dumfries, who beat the home keeper. His counterpart, Andre Onana, only sweated in the end after substitute Fortune Bassey’s header.
